About this tree

Jacaranda - Jacaranda mimosifolia

⚠️ Deciduous Tree — Seasonal Leaf Drop
The Jacaranda is a deciduous tree. It drops its leaves in winter and re-shoots in spring before flowering. This is completely normal. The bare winter branches are part of the character — and what follows in spring and summer makes it one of the most spectacular trees you can grow in SEQ.

Jacaranda — Queensland's Most Iconic Flowering Tree

There's nothing quite like a Jacaranda in full bloom. For weeks every spring and early summer, the entire canopy erupts in vivid purple-blue flowers — a display that turns heads, stops traffic, and photographs unlike anything else in the garden. It's Queensland's most loved street and garden tree for good reason.

Fast-growing, long-lived, and genuinely spectacular at maturity, a Jacaranda is an investment in your property and your garden that pays off for decades.

Frequently Asked Questions

When does it flower?
Typically October through December in SEQ, though this can vary with weather. Trees flowering before Christmas is the classic Brisbane sign that exam season has arrived.

How big will it get?
Jacarandas are large trees at maturity — 8–12m tall with a wide spreading canopy. Give them space. They're not suited to small courtyard gardens but are magnificent in larger suburban blocks.

How long until it flowers?
A 45L specimen may flower within 1–2 years of planting. Smaller plants can take 3–5 years to reach flowering size. Patience is rewarded.

Will it damage my foundations or pipes?
Plant at least 5–8m from structures, pools, and underground services. Like most large trees, root zone management matters — give it an appropriate position and it won't be a problem.
